Woman Charged With Murder In Daughter's Death

Handicapped 14-Year-Old Girl Found Unresponsive In 2007

A woman was arrested Thursday on a murder charge stemming from the 2007 death of her handicapped 14-year-old daughter.

A grand jury indicted Elizabeth Fairfield, 38, of Lebanon, Wednesday evening.

Fairfield's daughter, Brittany, was found unresponsive at the family's home in the 1900 block of North Lebanon Street when police responded to a 911 call on June 14, 2007.

Lebanon police released no further information about the case, citing a request from the Boone County Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutor Todd Meyer said in a news release that a grand jury was necessary due to several complicated alleged facts in the case.

"One in particular that people want to reject, that being that a mother would kill her own child. That being said, I wanted six people in this community to review the alleged facts with me to provide guidance on how to proceed," he said.

Fairfield was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon. She was being held without bond at the Boone County Jail.
