SAN DIEGO -- A man who was arrested in California last weekend in connection with the slayings of two Indianapolis men posed as a doctor at a San Diego hospital before his arrest, authorities said Friday.Michael Brown, 56, went into Scripps Mercy Hospital and told them that he was a new doctor and needed to take a shower, hospital security spokesman Anthony Roman told KGTV's Steve Fiorina. A nurse who suspected something wasn't right called hospital security, and nearby U.S. marshals, who were in the area looking for Brown, were brought to help search the hospital campus.A short time later, Brown was spotted at the hospital's information desk. Roman said that hospital security officers approched Brown and told him that, as a new doctor, he was welcome to use a phone in the security office. He followed the officers and was later arrested by U.S. marshals.
Roman said that Brown did not have any contact with patients at the hospital. The U.S. marshals looking for Brown said that he had changed his appearence since he was last interviewed by Indianapolis police last month."He was surprised when the marshals had walked into the office and said they were looking for him. He has disguised his appearance but was still wearing the same clothing that matched the initial description from Indiana," Roman said.An arrest warrant had been issued for Brown after police were unable to find him following an initial conversation concerning the killings of Milton Lindgren, 70, and Eric Hendricks, 73, on Oct. 20.The two men were found dead in their southwest-side home. Police declined to reveal what happened to the men, but said they died by "violent means."Officers said they interviewed Brown briefly right after the bodies were discovered."Mr. Brown was at the scene at the time officers were called to investigate what happened at the house," Thompson said in October. "He was one of the two individuals inside that stated the two individuals inside had not been seen or heard from in a while."Friends of Lindgren and Hendricks told 6News that they believed the men were killed because they were gay.Police reports show that the men had their phone and cable lines cut twice in the past few months and that anti-gay statements were posted on their front door.Watch 6News and refresh this page for updates.
