Dan Spehler

The newest member of the "Good Morning Indiana" team, Dan Spehler joined 6News as an anchor/reporter in November 2005 and now enjoys helping central Indiana wake up with the area's most complete news, weather and traffic every weekday morning.

Spehler is also one of the station's "Call 6 Investigators," helping Hoosiers solve problems and fight corruption by digging deeper into the news to find stories that will make a difference in people's lives.

A "Buckeye" for most of his life, Spehler grew up in the Cleveland area, where he knew at a very early age that he wanted to work in television. In fact, as a small child, his family let him build a fake television studio in the basement, where he "pretended" to broadcast everything from the nightly news to the Super Bowl!

That childhood dream was realized in February 2007, when Spehler was assigned to Miami to cover the Colts’ amazing championship run to Super Bowl XLI.

“It was an amazing experience I'll never forget,” Spehler said. "And what a thrill to be right there to see something our whole community and state will celebrate for years to come!"

Before moving to Indianapolis, Spehler worked at WDTN-TV in Dayton, Ohio, where he anchored the daily 5:30 newscast and reported for the 11:00 news. While at WDTN, Spehler was honored to receive both an Emmy nomination and a first-place award for investigative reporting from the Ohio Associated Press, for investigating the circumstances surrounding a botched drug raid that led to a young man's death. Another story of Spehler’s even helped change Ohio law, when he discovered that a new law prohibiting sex offenders from living near schools was not being properly enforced.

Prior to working in Dayton, Spehler was a weekend anchor/reporter for WUPW-TV in Toledo, Ohio. His work there was also recognized by industry leaders with two more Ohio Associated Press Awards: "Best Investigative Reporting" (first place) and "Best Reporter" (honorable mention).

Spehler’s investigative reporting at 6News has also been recognized, with a 2007 award from the Society of Professional Journalists and two honorable mentions from the Indiana Associated Press for "Best Reporter" and “Best Spot News Reporting."

Spehler attended Bowling Green State University and while there, served as general manager/news director for BG 24 News, the campus television station. Spehler also worked at WTVG-TV in Toledo as a news producer.

Away from work, Spehler enjoys the outdoors, sports, dining, and spending time with family and friends. Residing in Carmel, Spehler is very excited to be a part of the greater Indianapolis community and looks forward to enjoying all the many restaurants, parks, and attractions that the area has to offer!
