Man, woman dead in shooting on Indy’s near east side
INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — A man and a woman were killed in a shooting Monday afternoon on Indy’s near east side.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of East 13th Street and North Gladstone Avenue around 12:30 p.m. This is near the Little Flower neighborhood.
Officers found two people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
A woman, identified as 35-year-old Doris Jean Davis, died on the scene.
A man, identified as Je’Von Maurice Lacy, 33, was rushed to a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. IMPD initially reported he was in critical condition, though he later died.
Police say they believe the man and woman knew each other, but it was unclear what led up to the shooting.
“Preliminarily, detectives believe this to be an isolated incident in which the deceased male shot the female before shooting himself,” the notification said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to call IMPD Detective Doug Swails at 317-327-3475 or by e-mail at douglas.swails@indy.gov.
