14-year-old boy dies in DeKalb County off-road vehicle accident

AUBURN, Ind. (WRTV) — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle accident that left a boy dead Monday evening in DeKalb County.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, at 6:38 p.m., officers received a 911 call reporting an ORV accident with injury on private property near the 5400 block of County Road 52.

Investigators say that a 14-year-old boy was operating an off-road minibike when he attempted to avoid a crash with a go-kart and was ejected from the bike.

The minibike continued sliding, hit the go-kart, and then struck the boy.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

DNR says that despite life-saving efforts, the boy died at the scene.
