Wanted man tries to stash gun in grocery store’s pizza freezer while evading Evansville police

INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — A wanted man was behind bars after he ran from Evansville police into a grocery store and tried to stash a weapon in the food freezers.

The Evansville Police Department said on Tuesday, street crime detectives spotted 41-year-old Larry Goble in a business area on South Green River Road near Lincoln Avenue.

At the time, Goble was wanted on an unspecified warrant. Knowing this, officers tried to arrest Goble, but he ran into a nearby Ruler Foods.

They caught up with Goble inside and took him into custody. Detectives reportedly found weed in Goble’s possession, and later learned he had stashed a handgun between pizza boxes inside a store freezer.

Due to previous convictions, Goble is not allowed to own firearms, police say. Goble did later admit to hiding the gun because he didn’t want to be caught with it.

Police say Goble was taken into custody on preliminary charges of marijuana possession and unlawful carrying of a handgun by a felon.
