Investigative Reporter, Indiana’s I-Team
Investigative Reporter Kara Kenney brings more than 25 years of journalism experience to Indiana’s I-Team, including 19 years serving viewers across Indiana. Throughout her career, Kara has built a reputation for uncovering the truth, fighting for what’s right, and holding those in power accountable.
Kara’s investigations have exposed government waste and corruption, uncovered transportation safety concerns, and helped consumers who have been wronged by businesses, contractors, and scammers. Her reporting has produced real-world results, including changes to Indiana state law that increased transparency in school superintendent contracts, strengthened requirements for reporting school bullying incidents, and expanded radon testing in schools. Her reporting also prompted a new state law requiring the Indiana BMV to disclose how it spends money generated from selling driver data.
One of Indiana’s most accomplished investigative journalists, Kara’s work has earned 16 Emmy Awards, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, the Richard H. Driehaus Investigative Award from the Better Government Association, and numerous honors from the Associated Press, Indiana Broadcasters Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, and Indiana Judges Association.
In 2025, Kara was named Journalist of the Year by the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. She also received the Indiana Judges Association Media Award for her investigative series “Attorney Shortage.” In 2018, the Associated Press named her Indiana’s Best Reporter, and in 2012 she was honored as Journalist of the Year by the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists.
Before joining WRTV, Kara served as an investigative reporter at WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, where she earned national recognition for her “Tracking Your Tax Dollars” investigations. Earlier in her career, she worked at WSJV-TV in South Bend, Indiana, and WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin.
A graduate of Indiana University’s School of Journalism, Kara remains active in the journalism community and volunteers with several organizations, including the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists and her neighborhood Crime Stoppers group.
When she’s not chasing stories, Kara enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Tim Spears
Investigative Reporter, Indiana’s I-Team
Investigative Reporter Tim Spears brings 13 years of journalism experience to Indiana’s I-Team, including five years serving Indiana viewers. Throughout his career, Tim has focused on government accountability, public safety, consumer issues, and public policy, uncovering stories that drive change and deliver answers for the communities he serves.
Since joining WISH-TV, Tim has built a reputation for impactful investigative reporting that holds institutions accountable and shines a light on issues affecting Hoosier families. His investigations have prompted improvements to Indiana’s victim notification system, helping ensure victims receive better notification when offenders are released from prison. His reporting has also drawn national and international attention, including an exclusive interview with a fugitive who escaped while serving a sentence related to the January 6 Capitol riot.
Tim is a multi-Emmy Award-winning journalist whose work has also earned multiple regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and state broadcasting honors in five different states. His reporting has been recognized for its depth, storytelling, and commitment to public service journalism.
Before joining WISH-TV, Tim anchored the 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts at ABC57 News in South Bend, where he covered government and law enforcement accountability, regularly interviewed state and national lawmakers, and reported on stories impacting communities across northern Indiana. He was also part of Emmy-winning coverage of major breaking news and severe weather events.
Prior to moving to Indiana, Tim worked at Spectrum News 1 in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he earned an Emmy Award for Carolina in Crisis, a documentary examining the opioid epidemic and its impact on communities throughout the state.
Tim began his television career at KOAM-TV in Pittsburg, Kansas. Early in his career, his reporting on the lasting effects of the 2011 Joplin tornado earned journalism honors in both Kansas and Missouri.
At Indiana’s I-Team, Tim remains committed to asking tough questions, uncovering the facts, and delivering journalism that makes a difference.
Outside the newsroom, Tim enjoys classic movies, professional wrestling, and exploring parks and trails with his wife and daughter, Southern.
