81 more COVID-19 deaths and 7,344 new positive cases reported Thursday in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Thursday that 81 more people died with COVID-19 and 7,344 others tested positive for the virus.

The majority of the newly reported deaths occurred in the past week with 42 people dying Tuesday and Wednesday. Deaths are reported based on when the state receives data and occurred over multiple days.

There have been 546,499 positive cases and 8,452 confirmed deaths in Indiana since the pandemic began. An additional 371 probable COVID-19 deaths have also been reported.

A total of 2,812 people are in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 30 since Wednesday's report.

There have been more than 5.95 million COVID-19 tests administered to more than 2.71 million individuals with a 20.2% cumulative positivity rate among unique individuals. Indiana's seven-day positivity rate among unique individuals through Dec. 31 is 27.8%.

Among all tests, the cumulative positivity rate is 10.8%, while the seven-day positivity rate is 16.4%.

The state health department said 21.1% of ICU beds and 71.2% of ventilators are available.
