More than 6,200 Hoosiers have died with COVID-19, nearly 400,000 have tested positive

INDIANAPOLIS — An additional 98 Hoosiers have died with COVID-19, increasing the state's total deaths past 6,200 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported 5,835 more people have also tested positive for COVID-19.

The majority of recently reported deaths have occurred in the past week with 205 being recorded between Saturday and Tuesday. Deaths are reported based on when the state receives data and occurred over multiple days.

A total of 3,244 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

There have been 398,417 positive cases and 6,207 deaths in Indiana since the pandemic began. An additional 299 probable COVID-19 deaths have also been reported.

Marion County continues to lead the state with 53,514 cases and 932 deaths reported. Other counties that have seen the largest number of deaths from COVID-19 include Lake County with 507, Allen County with 377, St. Joseph County with 272, Elkhart County with 269, Hamilton County with 200, Johnson County with 185 and Hendricks County with 171.

There have been more than 4.7 million COVID-19 tests administered to more than 2.35 million individuals with a 16.9% cumulative positivity rate among unique individuals. Indiana's seven-day positivity rate among unique individuals through Dec. 1 is 27.7%. Among all tests, the cumulative positivity rate is 7.7%, while the seven-day positivity rate is 14.2%.

The state health department said 20.8% of ICU beds and 69.4% of ventilators are available.
