19-year-old killed; man who drove him to hospital arrested after shooting
INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — Police arrested a man on murder and robbery charges following a Sunday afternoon shooting on the city’s east side that left a 19-year-old dead and another man wounded.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 6200 block of East 11th Street at 1:23 p.m. Sunday.
In an apartment building hallway, police found a man with gunshot wounds. Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital. The man has not yet been publicly identified.
About 10 minutes later, 19-year-old Turion Carpenter arrived at Community Hospital East with gunshot wounds. Police believe Carpenter was involved in the shooting on 11th Street. He died at the hospital a short time later.
Officers detained the man who drove Carpenter to the hospital. Following an investigation, police arrested the driver on preliminary charges of felony murder and robbery. His name and booking photo have not been released.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
