Anderson police investigating after man fatally shot during ‘altercation’

ANDERSON, Ind. (WRTV) — Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Anderson during an “altercation.”

According to the Anderson Police Department, at 1:54 a.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of Madison Avenue on reports of multiple gunshots and a person who had been shot.

Arriving officers found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police say preliminary information indicates that multiple individuals were involved in an altercation when gunfire was exchanged. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and processing evidence collected from the scene. Detectives are working to identify all individuals involved.
