INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — Indianapolis police are investigating a hit-and-run that left a man dead earlier this month.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to the first block of South State Avenue after a person was hit by car on Aug. 13.

Officers arrived and found a 47-year-old male who was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The man died a short time later, police said.

Detectives believe the victim was involved in a disturbance before he was hit by a car. The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene, police said.

On Aug. 27, the Marion County Coroner’s Office ruled the victim’s death a homicide.

An investigation is underway.
