Indiana mother charged with murder following infant’s death in April
SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. — A northern Indiana mother faces murder charges following the death of her infant at their home in April.
Indiana State Police say the investigation into the infant’s death started on April 6, when detectives joined in the multi-agency effort to uncover the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
Through the course of the investigation, ISP says detectives finally gathered enough evidence to request charges be filed against the baby’s mother.
The mother, 24-year-old Chantel Cunningham, was formally charged with murder and neglect of a dependent causing death on Wednesday.
State police say Cunningham was being held at the LaGrange County Jail while she awaits her court hearing.
The baby’s age, gender, or cause of death weren’t immediately clear.
