Second inmate in a month dies at Jackson County Jail

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. (WRTV) — An inmate has died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Jackson County Jail during a routine check, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Amuel Hall, 44, of Norman, Indiana, was found unresponsive just after 10 p.m. Sunday. He’d been arrested Aug. 5 on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The sheriff’s office reported no strange behavior came from Hall on Sunday; Hall was seen eating his meals, talking with other inmates, and using the phones throughout the day.

After being found unresponsive, jailers performed life-saving measures. Medics rushed him to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, where he later died.

The sheriff’s office says the Indiana State Police will continue the investigation.

His cause of death has not been determined.

This is the second inmate to die at the Jackson County jail in the last month. On July 25, Richard Cox was also found unresponsive in his cell.

Cox was flown to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, but died on July 29. Investigators do not believe foul play was a factor in Cox’s death.
