IFD: Driver runs red light, hits fire engine responding to emergency call
INDIANAPOLIS — A driver who failed to yield at a red light crashed into a fire engine responding to an emergency call Sunday afternoon, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
IFD crews on Engine 25 were responding to a possible apartment fire with its lights and sirens on when another driver crashed into the engine near East 10th Street and North Arlington Avenue, IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith said in a press release. The crash happened around 12:30 p.m.
The driver’s car crashed into the engine’s passenger side, rear door, and wheel well, Reith said. Part of the driver’s bumper and front license plate were embedded in the wheel.
Three cars and the engine were involved in the crash, Reith said.
Two adults and one child who were in the cars involved were taken to local hospitals to be checked out, Reith said. No firefighters were injured.
The engine’s cab is now misaligned from the remainder of the engine.
