FISHERS, Ind. -- The Fishers City Council approved a wheel tax Monday night. The vote was unanimous but two council members weren't present.
The money generated from the tax will help fund future road maintenance projects in the city.
A new road funding bill approved in 2016 by the Indiana Legislature allows cities with a population of more than 10,000 to implement a wheel tax.
Fishers will collect $25 per registered vehicle but the tax won't kick in until 2018.
