Potential scam targeting Hamilton Co. residents

Posted

HAMILTON CO., Ind. -- There's a potential scam that could impact you if you live in Hamilton County.

In a Facebook post, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says deputies received a report of a phone call asking the victim to immediately call a person by the name of Kenneth Cook at the Sheriff's Office at a specific number. Deputies say there is no one at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office with that name.

Deputies say the sheriff's office does not serve warrants by telephone. Also, jury duty notifications are not made by phone either.

Investigators say you should always know the exact source of a phone number before calling that number. If you don't know if a phone number is legitimate, call the sheriff's office administration line at 317-773-1872 or Hamilton County Public Safety Communications at 317-773-1282.
