INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Blood Center and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana are partnering to help bulk up the state's supply of available blood.

In a news release on Tuesday, the blood center said it is hosting 'Thin Mint Thursdays' the next two Thursdays — March 7 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. — where everyone who donates blood at an Indiana Blood Center donor center will receive a free package of Thin Mints, while supplies last.

"Blood donors know that cookies are always waiting for them after they've done their good deed and who wouldn't love a Thin Mint?" Danielle Shockey, chief executive officer for Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, said. "Community service is at the core of Girl Scouts' mission, so Thin Mint Thursdays are the perfect partnership for our organization and the Indiana Blood Center."

The blood center said 550 donors are needed every day to help meet the needs of nearly 80 Hoosier hospital partners and their patients.

Thin Mint Thursdays will be held at the following donation centers:

  • Indianapolis: 3450 N. Meridian St.
  • Fishers: 11005 Allisonville Road
  • Carmel: 726 Adams St., Suite 150
  • Greenwood: 8739 U.S. 31 South
  • Lafayette: 2200 Elmwood Ave., Suite D-16

"Donating one unit of blood has the potential to save up to three lives," Dr. Charles Miraglia, president of Indiana Blood Center, said. "The generosity of blood donors throughout Indiana who give life-saving blood as the ultimate gift truly make a difference every day in our state's hospitals and beyond. Letting donors know that we're extremely grateful for them is a top priority of ours and we appreciate the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana for helping us say thank you to them with each Thin Mint Thursday."

Donating blood takes about an hour. Parental consent is required for donors age 16 to donate blood. Anyone age 17 or older in good health who meets eligibility requirements is encourage to give.
