School bus strikes child at mobile home park near Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WRTV) — A child was in the hospital with serious injuries after an Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. bus hit the juvenile on Tuesday afternoon in a mobile home park, the Vanderburgh Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened at 2:57 p.m. Tuesday at the Grandin Pointe Mobile Home Park in the 5900 block of North Saint Joseph Avenue. That’s northwest of Evansville of North St. Joseph Avenue.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies and McCutchanville firefighters arrived to find the school bus had struck the child while turning around in a parking lot.

While there were students on the bus during the crash, officials confirmed none of them were hurt.

The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Because the crash caused serious injuries, a sheriff’s office crash reconstructionist to investigate.

As required by Indiana law, the driver took a chemical test. While those results were pending, deputies said there was no sign that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

A sheriff’s office news release did not share the names of the child or the bus driver involved.
