FRANKLIN -- An Indianapolis man faces charges in Johnson County in the shooting death of a beagle dog.
The incident happened at Camp Atterbury, the sprawling Indiana National Guard training facility in southern Johnson County which is also a popular spot for hunting and fishing.
According to a report from Johnson County Animal Control, 39-year-old Kang Zhuang used a rifle to shoot the dog.
An Indiana conservation officer was patrolling the area and saw what happened.
Zhuang was arrested and charged with torturing and killing an animal.
Why Zhuang was at Camp Atterbury and why he would shoot a dog isn't clear, according to investigators.
He may have been trying to hunt illegally.
The beagle did did not have a dog tag and could have been abandoned or wandered away from its owner.
