Investigative Reporter
Circle City broadcasting located in Indianapolis, Indiana has an immediate opening for a full time, experienced multi-platform, Investigative Reporter. Circle City broadcasting has one of the largest newsrooms in the Midwest and produces nearly 90 hours of live local news and entertainment programming per week in DMA rank #25.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceive, research, and report original investigative stories of public significance
- Develop confidential sources and maintain strong relationships over time
- Analyze public records, court documents, financial disclosures, and data sets
- File and manage public records requests (FOIA and state equivalents)
- Collaborate with editors, data journalists, designers, and legal counsel
- Ensure factual accuracy, fairness, and adherence to journalistic standards
- Present findings through compelling written narratives and, when appropriate, multimedia formats
- Meet investigative deadlines while managing long-term projects
- Ability to tell stories that illuminate wrong doing, change laws and enhance the community
- Live reporting experience a must
- Expert user of social media including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X
Experience Required
- Degree in Journalism or similar
- Minimum Four years’ experience as News Reporter, including two years doing investigations
- Proven track record of published investigative work with measurable impact
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Advanced research and interviewing abilities
- Experience working with data, documents, and public records
- Familiarity with media law, ethics, and source protection practices
