FORTVILLE, Ind. -- There will be increased police presence at Mt. Vernon Community Schools on Thursday after several “unverified threats” were made over social media.
According to the Fortville Police Department, the threats were reported on Wednesday by the school system after they were found on social media and reported by students.
The Mt. Vernon School Corporation and the Fortville Police Department are working together to determine the significance of the threats.
Police say they have identified a person of interest.
“The safety of our community and our youth is the department’s utmost importance,” said Fortville Police Chief William Knauer.
Additional officers will be at the schools on Thursday as an added precaution.
