Mother seeks answers after murder of her son

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – Three years after her son’s death, an Indianapolis mother continues to remain hopeful police will catch the person responsible.

Cortez Moton, 19, the son of Shundra Moton, was fatally shot April 29, 2014 at a northwest side apartment complex.

Shundra said the arrest of her son’s killer would bring some closure, but ultimately, it would not bring her son back.

“The pain is something I never knew that the human heart could go through,” said Shundra. “I never knew the human heart could hurt so bad.”

She said she remembers the moment police told her Moton died.

“All I could see was the policeman and the chaplain, so my heart just dropped,” said Shundra.

One week ago, Moton’s family gathered at his gravesite for his 22nd birthday. His daughter, whom he never got the chance to meet, was also there to sing happy birthday to her father.

Shundra said it’s a matter of when – not if – the case gets solved.

“If he ever got caught...they get three or five years. Guess what? It doesn't matter the time they get, my son doesn't get to come back, you've taken a life that is irreplaceable.”
