BOONE COUNTY, Ind. – Being pulled over by a police officer is what helped save a Lebanon woman’s life a little over a year ago, and Wednesday, she reunited with her hero.
Officer Justin Fuston in Boone County pulled over 71-year-old Delphine Neukam for erratic driving as she was on her way to the hair salon. During the traffic stop, Fuston said he noticed something that made him call for help.
“I went ahead and got her out of the vehicle and I started doing my field sobriety. Throughout the process of doing the field sobriety her eyes started moving in ways they shouldn't,” said Fuston. “I contacted medics and they came to the scene and took it from there."
Later, doctors discovered a cyst the size of a grapefruit on Neukam’s brain.
“There's no doubt in my mind. If he hadn't pulled me over,” said Neukam. “I don't know what I would have done. I guess I would have kept on driving. I don't know."
The two reunited and Neukam was given a clean bill of health.
"It makes me feel like I'm doing the job I'm supposed to do,” said Fuston. “I love what I do and it's because of people that we're able to get up and do it every day."
