INDIANAPOLIS – A woman was injured after she was struck by a vehicle outside of an elementary school Wednesday afternoon, according to Indianapolis police.
Officers said a crossing guard was helping people cross the street at South Grove Intermediate School when an SUV’s passenger mirror knocked over the guard shortly after 3 p.m.

Police said she was written a citation for using an electronic device while driving. The driver said she had just learned of her daughter being in the hospital during the incident, which is why she was on the phone.
Officers said the guard was taken to the hospital for a head injury but was alert and talking.
