ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Madison County Humane Society is asking for help in raising $4,000 for a deaf dog who needs surgery to remove his ear canals.
Boss came to the shelter as a malnourished, dirty stray several months ago.
He had open wounds and skin lesions all over his body, including huge sore ears that shook often.
“We have taken Boss to numerous vets and after a number of medications we have been told that he needs a surgery called Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA),” read a Facebook post. “They will remove the diseased ear canal entirely during the surgical procedure for both ears. The surgery will be done at VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center in Fishers. This is the only vet near that we could find to do this incredible surgery.”
Boss has suffered with chronic infections resulting in growths and deafness.
“He is in pain,” read the post. “He is itchy and sore.”
The surgery will render Boss completely deaf, however, it should relieve the dog’s pain and discomfort.
Those interested in making a donation can send money via PayPal, or directly to the shelter at 2219 Crystal Street in Anderson, IN 46012
