FISHERS, Ind. – Fishers firefighters lent a helping hand to a crew member’s family while their infant daughter was hospitalized.

Jessica and Marcus Boffing have begun to experience the joys of parenthood to the fullest -- nearly 3 months after their daughter, Madalynne, was born. The couple said they are enjoying their time together after a difficult situation, thanks to Fishers firefighters.

Madalynne was at Riley Hospital for Children for about a month with a rare condition called, bladder exstrophy, which happens when the bladder partially develops outside of the body.  Doctors were forced to fracture her pelvis to re-insert her bladder.

During her stay at the hospital, Jessica and Marcus were at their daughter’s side and spent their nights at the Ronald McDonald House.

Firefighters from Fishers, where Marcus works, decided to care for the couple’s home while they were away.

Captain John Mehling said the firefighters cleaned the Boffing family's home, took care of their yard and folded their laundry.

The action helped Marcus and Jessica focus on spending time with their daughter once they arrived home.

Mehling said it’s common in the firefighter community for team members to take care of each other in difficult situations.

Madalynne’s parents said she is doing well and is back home and resting. She will turn 3 months old on Saturday.
