Howard County residents paying new incoming tax to fund 911 center

Posted

People living in Howard County will start seeing more money coming out of their paycheck after the Howard County Council approved a new income tax to support the county’s 911 center.

The Public Safety Answering Point tax, approved Monday by the county council, imposes a 0.1 percent income tax hike for people living inside Howard County.

According to the ordinance, the new income tax will go to fund people and equipment in the county’s dispatch center.

The center has been funded through 911 fees on landline and cell phone bills.

Those funds go to the state and are divided up to each county.

In July of 2017, the county received a little more than $54,000 in 911 fees, according to Indiana’s 911 board.
