INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Blood Center on Tuesday has issued a critical plea for donations statewide citing a low supply.

The center currently has less than a two-day supply of all blood types available. The Indiana Blood Center supplies whole blood, platelets and plasma to nearly 80 Indiana hospitals as they help patients with surgery, disease treatment and trauma.

In order to meet the needs of Hoosier hospitals, 550 Indiana blood donors must give blood each day.

All types of blood are needed, however, O-positive and O-negative blood are at critically low levels, the center said in a news release.

Indiana Blood Center has donation centers at the following locations:

  • Indianapolis: 3450 N. Meridian St.
  • Fishers: 11005 Allisonville Road
  • Carmel: 726 Adams St., Suite 150
  • Greenwood: 8739 U.S. 31 South
  • Terre Haute: 2021 S. Third St.
  • Lafayette: 2200 Elmwood Ave., Suite D-16

Donating blood takes about an hour. Anyone age 17 or older in good health who meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes their birth date to their appointment.

Central Indiana residents can make an appointment online at versiti.org/Indiana or by calling 317-916-5150.
