INDIANAPOLIS -- A man is accused of stealing a car with two young kids inside that was idling in a driveway on Indianapolis' east side Monday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 7900 block of Bellwood Drive for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The mother of the children told police that her vehicle was running outside with a 7-year-old and 3-month-old inside. When she realized it had been taken she called the police.

A neighbor told police that the suspect had approached him before taking off with the woman's car and asked for liquor. He said it appeared that the suspect had already been drinking.

Police say they located the vehicle a short time after the call and gave chase. The pursuit ended in the 3100 block of North Priscilla, about two miles from the home where the car was stolen. The suspect was arrested and the children were reunited with their mother.

The incident remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
