PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. -- A 3-month-old who died in Putnam County Thursday morning may have been sleeping unsafely with a parent, according to police.

Police were called to the home on Main Street in Bainbridge just before 6 a.m.

Indiana State Police say the infant's father called for help after finding his son unresponsive.

The father attempted medical aid until emergency services arrived, according to state police. The child was taken to Hendricks Regional Health where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say an autopsy conducted later that evening showed early indications that the infant may have been the victim of an unsafe sleeping environment with a parent. However, police say the investigation is still underway, and full autopsy results are expected in six to eight weeks.
