SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — The Shelbyville community teamed up with others across central Indiana to raise money to help the family of fallen Southport Police Lieutenant Aaron Allan.
Lt. Allan was killed in the line of duty as he was responding to help a man who’s car was overturned in July of 2017. Lt. Allan was shot several times, according to investigators.
The Shelbyville Police Department announced that $11,000 has been raised for Lt. Allan’s family through the Applebee's "Dining to Donate" fundraiser.
On October 10th, Shelbyville Police officers and firefighters were at Applebee’s encouraging community members to come out and eat. Fifteen-percent of all food purchases were donated.
Dozens of other Applebee’s locations across the the state also took part.
“We were proud to be able to take part in this great event,” a spokesperson for the Shelbyville Police Department said. “Thank you to all of you that came out to eat and to the officers and firefighters who volunteered their time to work the event.”
The money raised was a combined total from central Indiana Applebee’s locations.
“Tragedy like the murder of Lt. Allan reminds us that there is evil roaming around this world. It also shows us that when some are at their worse, most are at their best,” a spokesperson with the Shelbyville Police Department said.
The Marion County Prosecutor announced that his office would be seeking the death penalty against Jason Brown, the man accused of killing Lt. Aaron Allan.
