While hockey players are used to the slippery nature of ice, the fans of the Charlotte Checkers hockey team are not nearly as accustomed to the ice. Because of a snow and ice storm that struck Charlotte, N.C. Friday, the Charlotte Checkers decided to play their game versus the Chicago Wolves in front of no one.
The fans missed a good one as Chicago rallied to defeat Charlotte 4-3 in a shootout.
While the Checkers opted to play their game Friday, other teams decided not to. The Washington Capitals postponed their home game Friday. The Washington Wizards also postponed their game tonight versus the Utah Jazz. The New York Islanders were scheduled to host the Philadelphia Flyers today, but that game has been postponed.
A similar circumstance took place in Baltimore in April. The Baltimore Orioles baseball team played in an empty stadium during the unrest following Freddie Gray's death.
