CASS COUNTY — Three people are dead following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Cass County.

Dispatchers received a call around 9:30 p.m. about a fire and explosion along the Wabash River near the intersection of County Road 600 West and South River Road, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe a blue Toyota Camry went off the north side of the roadway, struck several trees and caught fire.

Three people were found dead inside the car after the fire was extinguished. The sheriff's and coroner's offices have preliminarily identified the three males killed in the crash, but are awaiting DNA tests to positively identify them.

Their identities won't be released until the males can be positively identified.

“This is a tragic scene,” Sheriff Edward Schroder said in a news release.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Cass County Sheriff's Office at 574-722-6060 or 574-753-7800.
