You probably know Dolly Parton for her singing talent and larger than life personality. But did you know she’s also a literacy advocate and author of children’s books?

Now, the multitalented entertainer is using her love of reading to launch “Goodnight with Dolly,” a weekly video series in which she will read different children’s books on behalf of Imagination Library, her book-gifting program. The program will launch on April 2, and the 10-week series is intended to comfort and reassure kids during a difficult time as we all grapple with the far-reaching effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right,” Parton wrote in her blog post announcing the series. “I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love. It is an honor for me to share the incredible talent of these authors and illustrators. They make us smile, they make us laugh and they make us think.”

Some of the titles featured in the series include: “The Little Engine That Could” by Watty Piper; “There’s a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake” by Loren Long; “Llama Llama Red Pajama” by Anna Dewdney; “Pass It On” by Sophy Henn, “Stand Tall Molly Mellon” by Patty Lovell; “Violet the Pilot” by Steve Breen; “Max & The Tag-Along Moon” by Floyd Cooper; and “Last Stop on Market Street” by Matt de la Pena; as well as two of Parton’s own books, “I Am a Rainbow” and “Coat of Many Colors.”

You can check out “Goodnight with Dolly” weekly beginning on April 2 at 7 p.m. Eastern on theImagination Library YouTube page. Here’s the promotional video for the series — and Dolly is in her pajamas, ready for bedtime!
