Milktooth restaurant in Fountain Square named one of the best restaurants in the WORLD

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis' dining scene has been budding for several years now, and a recent honor from Condé Nast magazine adds to a realization any hungry resident of the city knows: Some of the best food in the world is right here in the Circle City.

Condé Nast put together a list of the 207 best places to eat food on planet Earth. The list was compiled by those who eat, cook and travel for a living and know a thing or two about what brunch is like in Switzerland vs. what it's like in the Hoosier State.

Included on that prestigious list is our very own Milktooth.

Just how much of an honor is it to be on this list? Here's how Condé Nast describes the choices:

"When you’re faced with the make-or-break travel dilemma of where to eat in Hong Kong, Mendoza, Dakar—destinations where trustworthy recommendations are harder to come by but all the more vital—you have one shot to get it right."

In other words, when you're traveling across the United States, and you only have so many meal choices, Fountain Square's brunch-and-lunch-only eatery is a must-try.

Many of us in Indianapolis already know that Milktooth is among the best having been fortunate enough to be able to reach it within just a few miles of driving from our homes, but for those who haven't found themselves waiting two hours with one of the finer cups of coffee you've ever had in anticipation of sampling the best sorghum-glazed bacon on the planet next to a how-did-they-make-this-dutch baby pancake: Set your weekend plans accordingly.

Here's what Condé Nast contributor Ashlea Halpem had to say about Indianapolis' finest meal:

“This breakfast-, brunch-, and lunch-only restaurant in an airy converted garage wouldn’t touch eggs Benedict with a 50-foot pole. And that’s what makes it so genius. Chef Jonathan Brooks does wild things with Dutch baby pancakes; he puts egg salad and fried Lebanon bologna on toast. Because why not?”

One of the best things about Milktooth? Their food is good, and they know it. Their menu boasts this with the following posted statement: "MODIFICATIONS POLITELY DECLINED (we will accommodate allergies if possible)"

If you're lucky enough to get seated outside, it's a perfect crisp fall morning breakfast, but even when the winter closes the garage doors, the coziness makes it all the more charming.

Milktooth was the only restaurant mentioned from Indiana on the list, is side-by-side with just one restaurant from Hawaii on the list, and joins dozens of tried-and-true bistros and restaurants from the likes of Paris, all over Italy and various other exotic locations such as Ghana, Thailand and Peru.

Here's a look at the entire list.

A few quick takeaways from this honor:

1. If you haven't been to Milktooth and you live in the Indy-metro area - You're doing it wrong.

2. If you're hosting someone from out of town, who is visiting Indianapolis with limited time, make sure you take them to Milktooth.

3. Milktooth is a really, really, really, really good restaurant. You can travel 3,000 miles away and not find the cool combo of hipster ambience balanced with fine food in a casual, "I like this song"-environment.

Milktooth does not accept reservations. Check out their menu and more about the restaurant on their website here.
