Old Pro's Table wins Best Bar in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Survive and advance: That's what Old Pro's Table did in the 2016 Best Bar Indy bracket, and they can now walk away with the title of Best Bar in Indianapolis, thanks to your votes!

We put together 68 bars in a bracket to go head-to-head in an NCAA Tournament style matchup to determine the best bar in Indianapolis.

The bars were split up into four regions: EAST (Mass Ave), NORTH (Broad Ripple and SoBro), SOUTH (Fountain Square), and CENTRAL (Downtown).

Old Pro's Table, or OPT's as the regulars know it, came out on top to represent the Broad Ripple/SoBro region as the Best Bar in Indy.

Much like in the tournament, the 24-year veteran of the neighborhood has kept its doors open in a district that expects turnover every so often to keep up with drinking and dining trends, surviving and advancing through those ups and downs.

In an upset with 64% of the vote, 11-seed OPT's took down tournament favorite and No. 1 seed, the Slippery Noodle Inn.

The bar took down some powerhouses with ease on its way to the championship. They defeated the popular Mousetrap in the first round 60-40, followed by eliminating another Broad Ripple favorite Average Joe's, 66-34. In the Sweet Sixteen, they beat up Broad Ripple Tavern 66-34 and escaped No. 1 seed Union Jack from across the street, 55-45 in the Elite Eight. In the Final Four, the Rathskeller downtown, another staple of Indianapolis, couldn't keep up in a lopsided 77-23 victory on their way to the championship.

OPT's appears to be an unassuming billiards pub at first glance at the exterior from Broad Ripple Avenue, but step inside and you'll find it's much more. A round fireplace keeping patrons warm in the winter months transforms easily to open-air seating in the summer months (which is especially helpful thanks to this bipolar spring weather we've been seeing).

The pool tables are certainly a staple, but trivia nights add to the entertainment value and when both bars are open on the weekends, you can bet there will be some dancing in between.

The drink menu offers a mix of staples and local rotating taps, diverse bottles and all the usual (and unusual) liquor combinations. The Mug Club keeps things affordable, the drink towers are great for groups and if you haven't tried a Vegas Bomb from inside these walls, you haven't lived.

The food menu is small by many of Broad Ripple's standards, but the diverse items on it hit the spot. Everything from tacos to Bavarian pretzels to pizza and burgers - OPT's covers the classics, but kicks it up a notch with the Fire Burger and their Korean-style dishes.

Congratulations to Old Pro's Table on their crown!
