INDIANAPOLIS -- What does 4,800 square feet in the Forest Hills neighborhood look like? An unsuspecting exterior leads into beautiful wood crafting on the inside.
Mike and Becky Morrison's 6 beds, 3.5 baths home was built in 1931. They moved into it four years ago from Lexington with their three daughters; Clara, 7, Chloe,5, and Lottie Mae, 1.
Two years ago, Becky started Lynn & Campbell Interiors, working as a design stylist, so you can imagine their home is dressed to the nines.
The homeowners find inspiration from their family. They are a big fan of a happy, functioning home, striving for it to look beautiful and interesting, but to function well on a day-to-day basis.
Their favorite design elements are in their very unique family room that is original to the home with plaster walls, sconce lighting, a chandelier, wood-stained beams, a wood-burning fireplace and lead-stained glass windows. It's their favorite room in the house.
The family is currently considering adding a first floor master, their biggest design challenge yet.
The artwork in the downstairs guest bedroom is by a family friend and artist, Mitzi Walters. She is also a paint consultant and they worked in collaboration on the home. The piece she commissioned for them was inspired by a silk ikat textile Becky gave to her.
The artwork in Lottie Mae's room was given to them by their neighbor and close friend, Mike Moreman. That piece was the inspiration for the room.
They have photos on canvas in the dining room of Clara and Chloe.
Their biggest indulgence in the home is the late-1800s Sarouk Hand-Knitted Rug, they found it at an estate auction in Cincinnati,.
Their biggest design advice? If you find something you love, go for it. They love an interesting space with pieces that tell a story.
The biggest DIY challenge in the home was stripping and staining a closet door that had been painted white in Lottie Mae’s room. They put it simply: "Professionals are worth paying for."
Favorite places to shop are locally at Haus Love, shops at the Indiana Design Center, and Restoration Hardware. They also love apps like Chairish, EBTH, and Etsy.
