INDIANAPOLIS -- What does a brand new house look like? Yvonne Norris sought to find out by building a 3-bed, 3.5-bath home in just 1,885 square feet.
Norris, a pharmaceutical sales rep and her partner David Downey have two dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, so space isn't a major concern.
Norris built her brand new home this year in Windsor Park, a neighborhood nearby downtown Indianapolis and Mass Ave.
The modern design features a smaller, modern open floor plan with an abundance of floor to ceiling windows to make the efficient space feel bigger than it is.
Norris' biggest design challenge was just that: Building a small functional home with plenty of storage and a small outdoor space.
Her DIY skills were put to the test when she built a small bar in the basement done with Brian Burtch of Neon Architecture, the architect of the home.
The biggest indulgence of the home was the Zola Tilt and Turn windows imported from Poland. The home also showcases a beautiful raw metal stair railing built by Center Line metal fabricators and wood floors throughout.
Norris' best design advice: Take advice and suggestions from the experts if needed. Burtch and Dan Porzel of Cedar Street Builders were the inspiration/brains behind all the design elements of our home. "If unsure-keep it simple and make sure YOU love it," Norris said.
Norris' favorite places to shop for the home are Houzz, All Modern, CB2 and IKEA. Art work in the home came from local artists.
"I highly recommend using a architect if your dream is to have a truly unique home that is designed to fit your needs perfectly," Norris said.
