Building strong fathers and strong families starts with re-engaging men in their relationships and society – at least according to January's Jefferson Award winner.
Dr. Wallace McLaughlin works at the Fathers and Families Center to teach men about job readiness, parenting and relationship skills, and to help them prepare for their high school diploma exams.
McLaughlin has been a leader in the program for 22 years, and has witnessed men transform firsthand.
"You see a difference in their sense of pride, their sense of hope," McLaughlin said. "It's almost like the click factor. Probably after losing a job five times, they get it."
RTV6 Anchor Ericka Flye spoke with McLaughlin about his work, for which he was selected as a Jefferson Award recipient. Watch her story in the video player above.
