INDIANAPOLIS — One of Indy's own is up for a big national award.

Katina Washington is all about empowering and encouraging women to dream big. Every day she is focused on "she."

A degree of caution as every person underwent a temperature check at the State Fairgrounds.

SHE stands for She Has Everything and it unfolded at its largest venue to date. This is all about empowering women to start their own businesses and create jobs.

"Our businesses depend on it, our community depends on it," Washington said.

In January, SHE's founder Katina Washington received the distinguished Jefferson Award for Multiplying Good and she hasn't slowed down.

"Over 90 percent of our vendors here today create their own products and services," Washington said. "Organic businesses here."

It is the first time Katina hired 15 girls ages 14 through 16 who will work together to present their business at the next SHE event.

"I look up to them, you look up to them," Jalayia Davis, an eighth-grader, said.

It's On and Poppin Popcorn has used this event to build their brand name and provide advice for up and coming entrepreneurs.

It's an event where ideas may pop in your mind and bloom into a business, and they're not settling for anything but bigger and better.

"Today is an example of people who are persevering and they are going to push through this time and make things happen," Washington said.

Washington represented WRTV and Indiana in the national Jefferson Award for Multiplying Good program.
