INDIANAPOLIS — The panelists have been announced for the final installment of a series of programs on racism presented by the United Way of Central Indiana.

The final program of "Understanding the Roots of Racism" will be held from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The program will be moderated by Andre Franklin, chair of the United Way's Diversity Leadership Circle. This month's program focuses on transportation and features panelists Inez Evans, president and CEO of IndyGo; DeAmon Harges, roving listener, The Learning Tree; Kim Irwin, executive director of Health by Design; and Sen. Greg Taylor, Indiana Senate District 33.

The struggle for people of color to access public transportation has a long history — from Frederick Douglass entering a train car reserved for white passengers in 1841 to the 20th century bus boycotts in the south which lead to landmark civil rights legislation.

Transportation affects where we live, work, play and go to school and serves as a key issue in addressing poverty, unemployment, health care, and education.

The program is free. Click here to register for the program.
