INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting a man multiple times in the face during an argument on the south side.
Kuldip Singh, 56, was charged Tuesday with one count of attempted murder for his alleged role in a shooting in the 1000 block of Troy Avenue.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, IMPD officers were called to the club at 1020 W. Troy Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on a report of a person shot.
They arrived to find a man, Narjit Singh, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the face.
Singh was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It wasn't immediately clear what, if any, relationship the two men have to each other.
Witnesses told police the shooting stemmed from an argument between Singh and another man over “religion and about a temple that had been built in Greenwood.”
The suspect, Kuldip Singh, was reportedly arguing with the victim when he ran into a nearby building and returned with a handgun. According to witness statements to police, Kuldip Singh then shot Narjit Singh three times in the face.
Witnesses told police that after Narjit fell to the ground, Kuldip shot him two more times.
Kuldip then reportedly fled the scene briefly before returning five minutes later and asking “if the male he shot was dead or if [he] needed to get him some water.”
Another witness told police he saw Narjit hit Kuldip with a slipper and say, “If you have your father’s blood, shoot me,” just prior to the shooting.
In an interview with police, Kuldip said he had gotten into an argument with another man over a temple in Greenwood. He said three men then jumped him and held him down and started hitting him in the head. Kuldip told police he was able to get away and ran into the middle of a truck parking lot, where, he said, he fired two-to-three rounds in the air in rapid succession. He said maybe one of the men pulled his arm down and caused him to shoot low.
Kuldip said he then put his gun in his desk drawer in a nearby building and drove off.
During a search of the desk, police found a .40-caliber Glock Model 23 with six unfired rounds. The caliber of bullets in the gun matched those found at the shooting scene.
As a result of the investigation, Kuldip Singh was arrested on Sunday and booked in to the Marion County Jail on preliminary charges of attempted murder. No bond had yet been set.
