INDIANAPOLIS -- The alleged ringleader of a criminal organization linked to at least seven murders in Indianapolis was released from jail on an $8,000 bond in Texas last week.
Richard Grundy III was charged in September 2015 with four counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with two double homicides in 2014. Grundy was also accused of murder in the 2013 death of Kendrid Mintze, as well as conspiracy to commit murder for his role in the alleged attempt to kill another man – not to mention numerous drug-related charges, including alleged cocaine dealing out of a West 31st Street home.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office held a joint press conference with ATF agents in October, calling Grundy's arrest – along with the arrest of 10 other alleged members of the "Grundy Crew" – a "significant" blow to organized crime in Indianapolis.

“Richard Grundy III is accused of acting as the leader of a dangerous gang intent on distributing drugs in our community and promoting violence and fear to protect their illegal business operation,” Marion Co. Prosecutor Terry Curry said at the time.
But the murder case against Grundy in the 2014 double homicides fell apart after a key witness was found to have lied to police about her identity. Prosecutors eventually dropped the murder charges against Grundy in those deaths, although he still faces allegations of conspiracy to commit murder, dealing cocaine, corrupt business influence and carrying a handgun without a license.

Grundy was being held at the Marion County Jail on a $100,000 bond until last week, when he reportedly bonded out. He was then immediately taken into custody by Texas law enforcement officers and transferred to the Oldham County (Texas) Jail on a warrant for possession of marijuana between 50-2,000 pounds. Oldham County Jail officials told Call 6 Investigates that Grundy bonded out of jail on Friday on an $8,000 bond.
Marion County court records show Grundy still faces a host of charges in Indianapolis, including dealing in marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school bus, corrupt business influence, conspiracy to commit murder and criminal gang activity.
