INDIANAPOLIS – The big red call boxes on the Monon Trail are supposed to assist people in case of emergency, but earlier this year Call 6 Investigates discovered many of them did not work properly.
Call 6 investigates tested out the boxes five months after the initial discovery to learn if they were repaired.
The six boxes sit along the southern end of the Monon Trail, one every few blocks between 13th Street and 34th Street.
One of the six boxes that was broken in February was repaired. Four boxes that previously worked fine still operated smoothly. The last box that presented some communication issues in February is now on the repair list.
Indy Parks officials said until it is repaired they've added an out of order sign and say they'll continue checking the boxes every week.
