CALL 6: Trouble redeeming vouchers from Ticketmaster settlement

INDIANAPOLIS -- You could be eligible for free tickets from Ticketmaster – but that doesn't mean getting them will be easy.

As part of Ticketmaster's $400 million settlement over deceptive or excessive fees, millions who bought a ticket through them between 1999 and 2013 can get a code for a free ticket or a discount.

Call 6 Investigates has found that customers have been experiencing technical difficulties, including access to the list of eligible concerts.

Sean Copeland is a Ticketmaster customer who's learned he has 24 tickets waiting for him. But he isn't sure he'll be able to use them.

"I'm like, 'well surely I went to a concert in that time period,'" Copeland said. "So I logged in and clicked on the vouchers. It felt like Christmas morning. I had 24 concert tickets there waiting for me.'

Call 6 went through the process to check. After checking the eligible voucher numbers and using those codes at the check out screen of eligible concerts, Ticketmaster returns a message that reads:

Sorry, we are experiencing some technical difficulties. Please try entering your voucher code again.

Even after multiple tries by Call 6, the error message persisted.

A spokesperson for Live Nation spoke with Mashable, and did not specifically address why some customers are getting error messages. They did ask anyone trying to redeem a voucher to visit this page to see eligible events.

It's likely the onslaught of free-ticket seekers that's slowing the voucher redemption process down. It also doesn't help that the newest performance of "Hamilton", the musical, just went on sale in Chicago, with an average wait time of 5 hours for a ticket. So for now, hang tight until the freeloaders have gotten their fix.
