INDIANAPOLIS -- The Carmel City Council is looking at giving its own president a raise.
The ordinance is scheduled to be discussed at the next council meeting Monday evening.
It’s unclear how much the raise would be, but council members currently earn $16,744 and will make $17,246 in 2016.
The sponsor of the ordinance, council member Sue Finkam, told Call 6 Investigates' Kara Kenney the idea came up during a brainstorming session.
“It’s long been recognized that the council president has a heftier load than other members,” said Finkam. “I just want to get something on paper to start a discussion.”
The agenda item won’t be voted on until its January meeting, in which three new members will join the council.
Current council president Rick Sharp was defeated by Mayor Jim Brainard in the mayoral Republican primary. Council members Eric Seidensticker and Luci Snyder were also defeated in the primary.
