Ex-Monroe Central school board member gets a year probation in theft case

RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. -- An ex-Monroe Central school board member will serve a year of supervised probation after pleading guilty to conversion, a misdemeanor.

A grand jury indicted Michelle D. Phillips for felony theft last yearfor exerting unauthorized control over the property of Monroe Central Bears Backers.

The theft took place between December 2016 and May 2017, according to the indictment.

On May 7, a judge agreed to the terms of the plea agreement Phillips reached with prosecutors which includes a 365 day suspended jail sentence and 365 days of supervised probation.

Phillips resigned from the school board after the indictment.

Call 6 Investigates was unable to reach Phillips for a response  and her attorney has not responded to requests for comment on the plea.

Phillips was not arrested or booked into the county jail so there is no mugshot for her.

The school district is located about 10 miles east of Muncie in Randolph County.
