INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis' pawn shops went under the microscope this week as IMPD and code enforcement agents made compliance sweeps.
Pawn shops in Marion County are closely monitored, and even work with law enforcement in an attempt to stop the pawning of stolen items.
Shop managers like Linda Stone, who works at First Cash Pawn, say they don't mind the sweeps.
"The people that are stealing are hurting the pawn shops, because we lose a lot of money by giving money out to people that are stealing," Stone said.
Shop employees are required to check photo IDs, take a fingerprint and also take your picture whenever you pawn an item. All that information is entered into an online system that police can search after someone reports an item stolen.
