INDIANAPOLIS -- Carrier workers weren't pleased to see outsiders show up Wednesday at the warehouse in Indianapolis.
They thought the visitors were from Monterrey, Mexico, who were sent to observe their operations.
It turns out the visitors are from Texas where an unknown number of the Carrier jobs will end up.

"Our intention is to relocate our Indianapolis distribution center and transfer activity to an existing third-party vendor in San Antonio, Texas, not Mexico," Carrier spokeswoman Michelle Caldwell said. "We do not currently have employees from our Mexico operations observing our activities."
It's been a stressful time for hundreds of workers since United Technologies announced on February 10 that it was moving its production jobs from Indianapolis to existing plants in Monterrey, Mexico beginning in 2017.

Monterrey is just two hours south of the Texas border. It's in the state of Nuevo Leon which boasts that 3,000 foreign businesses have operations in their region. Carrier currently has four plants in Monterrey with about 2,000 employees.
The facilities produce rooftop air conditioners and at some point will manufacture the furnaces that are made in Indianapolis. The units are sold under a variety of brand names including Bryant, Carrier, KeepRite, Payne, Tempstar, Comfortmaker, Heil, Arcoaire and Day & Night. These are manufactured at the Indianapolis plant.
The United Steelworkers Union Local 1999 held a protest outside the plant Wednesday afternoon.
It was the first public protest this month and the first on the west side involving the company's decision to move jobs to Monterrey.
